Eco has committed time and resources to helping the development of a range of technologies that use bio-ethanol as fuel. These technologies were initially developed by Marko Ltd and include an ethanol lamp, an ethanol cookstove and an ethanol boiler. Eco Ltd has enabled a student from Loughborough University to support testing activities of the range of ethanol technologies that Bluwave has developed. Upon completion, the project is expected to develop a self-sustaining environmental ethanol system that can provide energy service including lighting, thermal energy, process heat, motive power and electricity for households, enterprises and public facilities such as hospitals within SADC and beyond. Since all ethanol and technologies can be produced within the region, such a project would have enormous poverty alleviation benefits as it would build technical capacity, create direct and indirect employment, conserve forests and rehabilitate degraded land, reduce petroleum import bills and save much needed foreign exchange.
